Age 82 of Lakewood Ranch, FL passed away on December 15, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Dennis was born on April 4, 1942 in Peoria, IL to Clyde and Hazel King and after his mother’s passing, was lovingly raised by Virgina King, who became a guiding presence in his life. He grew up in Chillicothe, IL and graduated Chillicothe High School in 1961, where he went onto Western Illinois and then Southern Illinois University where he graduated with a B.S. in Marketing in 1966.
Dennis was known for his warm and generous spirit, his unwavering work ethic, and was incredible provider to his family. He dedicated 25 years to a successful career at Hallmark Cards, where he excelled as a leader and mentor. Dennis was a proud recipient of the prestigious RB Hall Award 7 times and managed the largest Ambassador district-Chicago, a testament to his exceptional dedication and talent. After retiring, Dennis enjoyed a successful 20-year career as a Realtor, with the last years of his career spent with Berkshire Hathaway, where he continued to help families find their dream homes with dedication and care.
Outside of work, Dennis embraced life to the fullest. He found joy in fishing, hunting, and boating, often spending peaceful days on the water. He cherished vacations to the Florida Keys and the Bahamas, creating unforgettable memories with his loved ones. He was also a proud member of the VFW and deeply enjoyed his volunteer work, always eager to give back to his community and fellow veterans. Above all, Dennis treasured time with his family and friends, who were the heart of his world. His kindness, sense of humor, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Marlo King, who stood by his side as his devoted partner and married for 59 years. He leaves behind his three daughters, Jennifer (Thad) Carter, Lori King, and Tracy Day whose strength, kindness, and accomplishments filled him with pride and love every day. Dennis was a devoted grandfather to Ryan, Jake, and Justin Day, as well as Caylin and Blake Carter, each of whom brought him boundless joy. He is also survived by his brother, Curtis King, with whom he shared a lifelong bond of love and support. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Hazel King and by his stepmother, Virginia King.
A gathering for Dennis will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Robert Toale & Sons Celebration of Life Center, 4310 Solutions Lane, Bradenton, FL 34211, followed by a celebration of life from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.A private committal service with military honors will be at Sarasota National Cemetery. Dennis will be remembered for his warm smile, his fun sense of humor, and his devotion to those he loved.
