David Peter Powers

Dave attended Creston High School in Grand Rapids, where he was a gifted athlete. Upon graduation, Dave attended Central Michigan University where he earned a degree in physical education. Dave spent his teaching career with Grand Rapids public schools and enjoyed refereeing high school sports. He spent his free time golfing with friends, going to the lake, and riding his motorcycle. Shortly after retirement, Dave moved to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and beach year round. He also loved sitting on his deck at his home and watching the wildlife around the water. Dave will be remembered for one of his greatest passions, dancing and listening to local bands.

Dave was beloved by his family and many friends. He will be missed.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and June Powers.

He is survived by his loving sister, Marykae “Mickey” Powers (L. George) Clayton, his brother Gilbert “Chick” (Nancy Johnson) Powers, his niece Amy (Tawny Hammond) Clayton, his nephews Lawrence Clayton, Shad (Xochitl Pena) Powers, Ryan (Jillian Dowgiallo) Powers, several cousins, and his four beautiful grand nieces, Parker, Cora, Ivory, and Jenison.

The family also wishes to express their gratitude to Dave’s friends for their help and support.
