Barbara was born November 17, 1935 to George A. Layton and Esta Myrl Huffman in Noblesville, Indiana. Ileen Carmichael Layton, stepmother. Katy Swadley godmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, godmother and brothers, James A Layton and Charles “Chuck” Layton. Also, son in law Donald E. Cook, Jr.
She was a graduate of the Lapel High School class of 1953. A member of the Braden River United Methodist Church and worked many times on Emmaus walks in Indiana.
She married her sweetheart, Kay Don, in 1955. They were married 66 years on May 28, 2021. The memories they have are never to be replaced.
Barbara worked at Hamilton Southeastern High School as a office secretary, Fishers, IN in the 1970’s. She touched many kids lives during her time there.
She was a great friend to many people and touched many lives in special ways. You were one lucky person to have known Barbara.
Her greatest job was being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mother of 4, grandmother of 12 and great grandmother of 23.
Surviving Barbara are her husband, Kay Don, daughter Robin Passwater (Jeff), son Tracy Stevenson, daughter Lezlie Cook , daughter Keri Moore (Jeff). Her stepsister Jan Baker (Jim) and a lifelong friend Sam Swadley.
She also was blessed with “Five Fabulous Friends”. They were friends for 80 years. Harriett Turner, Sue Haines, Doris Barker, and Myrna Sauer. Harriett went to be with Jesus in September and now Barb has joined her. They are singing songs of joy with Jesus and getting into mischief.
For everyone in Florida, we are having a celebration of life service at the Braden River United Methodist Church at 2:00pm on Tuesday December 7th, 2021.
For everyone in Indiana, we are still determining details of memorial service. Services will be in Lapel, IN. Exact details to come.
