December 2, 1963 – May 13, 2023
Edward Patrick Burns, “Pat,” 59, passed away unexpectedly on May 13, 2023.
Pat was born in Cheverly, Maryland to Thomas and Flora Burns, on December 2, 1963. He grew up in Seabrook with his three brothers, Thomas Jr., Michael, and Christopher and two sisters, Kathleen, and Karen. He attended school at Gaywood Elementary, Robert Goddard Junior High, and graduated from Duval Senior High, Class of 1981.
He went on to further his education at Fort Scott Junior College, Class of 1983, and University of Missouri, Class of 1985 where he received his degree in Liberal Arts, and played Defensive Tackle on the football team. Pat spent most of his adult life working as a Warehouse Manager for NASA, until his recent retirement in 2022.
The legacy Pat leaves behind is legendary, and those who knew him each have their own stories to tell about him. He was known to say what he meant, and meant what he said. He had a no filter approach to life and was always confident enough to speak on what he believed in. Despite his larger-than-life presence, there was a soft heart within him that was the driving force in his life. He was an empathetic, selfless, compassionate, generous man. His true mission in life was to make a difference and brighten the days of anyone he encountered, and that he surely did.
Pat was a devoted son, brother, uncle, great uncle, friend, coach, and mentor. He kept those he loved close to him and was adamant in reminding them just how valued they were by him. He was one of those “just because” kind of people, sure to tell people how much they meant to him because life was just too short not to. His presence and loving nature will be missed by so many. The family is forever grateful to all who loved him for their invaluable support to Pat throughout his lifetime.
Pat is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Flora Burns, and his sister Karen Burns. He is survived by his siblings, Thomas Burns, Jr. (Cathy Burns), Michael Burns, Christopher Burns (Vicky Burns), and Kathleen Osborne, his nephews Thomas Burns III (Alexis Burns), Jason Osborne (Paige Osborne), his nieces, Melissa Luehrs (Travis Luehrs), Michelle Davis (Matt Davis), Jessica Burns (Michael McGuire), Marisol Burns, Arely Burns (Kelsey Smith), Jana Norris (Chris Norris), and Jeana Osborne (Dominic Quaranta), his great nieces and nephews, Thomas Burns IV, Magnolia Burns, Marley Davis, Deven Hernandez, Christopher Norris III, Deanna Norris, Greyson Osborne and Bailey Osborne, as well as his lifelong best friend, Marvin Jackson.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 1:00-to 3:00 PM at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715, followed by a memorial service from 3:00 to 4:00 PM.
