Carrie was born on February 26, 1935, to Mary Marie (Canter) and John Henry Tobert. She grew up in Oak Hill, Ohio with five brothers and an older sister. Carrie filled her life with school, chores, Sunday School, and acts of service, before leaving home to work in Columbus, Ohio. While working at the Battelle Institute, she met and fell in love with David Miller. They married on March 2, 1956, settled in Columbus, and had three sons, Douglas (Rebecca), Eric (Carolyn), and Don (Mia). In 1965, the family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and in 1968 they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
Carrie managed Adult Education Programs for the Worthington SchoolDistrict for many years, and then embarked on a second career in the Army National Guard. She served with distinction as an Internal Recruiter, and retired with the rank of Master Sargent. Upon retirement, Carrie and David found joy and satisfaction volunteering in the Atlanta temple and doing family history work. After David died in 1996, Carrie continued to volunteer in the Columbus Temple, where she met her second husband, Joseph Patton. They spent 16 happy years together in Columbus, and then Lanham, Maryland, before Joseph passed away in December, 2023.
Carrie re-joined her loved ones who preceded her in death, on April 22, 2024. She is survived by her sons, Eric and Don, their wives, Carolyn and Mia, Douglas’ widow, Rebecca, seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
