Known most commonly by friends and family as "Archie" or "Bud", Bernard is survived by son Thomas and his wife Barbara (Bowie, MD), son Jeffrey (Landover, MD), and several nieces, nephews and in-law relatives. He is predeceased by Marian, his beloved wife of 59 years, his 4 older brothers and 1 sister, and his parents Charles and Hazel Lyons.
Bernard was born April 21, 1935 and raised in Brownsville, PA. He and his wife Marian had a life-long relationship, growing up as nearby neighbors from childhood. Upon graduation from Brownsville High School, he proudly served in Korea as a member of the United States Marine Corps, receiving his honorable discharge from service in 1957. Following his military service, he and Marian were married in September 1961, beginning their 59 years of marriage. They relocated to the Washington, DC area, where she served as a nurse at Prince George's Hospital and he worked as a Sprinkler Fitter in Local Union 669 for over 30 years.
Bernard and Marian were active members of Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Bladensburg, MD for more than 40 years. He had a lifelong love of playing cards, bowling and baseball, especially for his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates and favorite player Roberto Clemente. Most of all, he dearly loved his wife Marian, and now he is reunited with her to spend eternity together in loving and peaceful Heavenly rest.
Viewing services will be held on Wednesday, September 1st from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home (16000 Annapolis Rd, Bowie, MD, 20715).
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 2nd at 11:00am with a brief remembrance service at the Evans Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Fort Lincoln Cemetery (3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, MD 20722).
