Born in Michigan he arrived in Massachusetts in the early 1950’s where he met the love of his life Patricia who he married and spent the next 68 years with.
After serving as active duty in the US Army for 3 years he transitioned to the US Army Reserve for the next 23 years, rising to the rank of Command Sergeant Major.
Bill was a co-owner of a successful floor covering business, in Beverly MA for 27 years.
After retirement Bill and Pat moved to Cape Cod where they spent many happy years together. On the cape they were blessed to find a close-knit community who became extended family.
Bill cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. Whether it was quahogging, fishing or working on special projects, he loved sharing his passion with them.
Bill was a man of many talents and interests. His greatest passion was wood carving for which he received many awards.
At the end of the day, there was nothing more that he enjoyed than having the love of his life beside him, with an adult beverage, laughing with friends on the deck.
Bill is predeceased by his parents William and Mildred Thomas, his brothers Bernard and Richard Thomas, and his grandson Christopher Thomas. He is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Marianne Kern and son-in-law Dave, sons, William and daughter-in-law Sharon, George and daughter-in-law Emily, and Timothy and daughter-in-law Wendy. His grandchildren Stacey Reade, Patrick Thomas, Keara McGuire, Cameron Thomas, Kerrin Thomas, Molly Thomas, Lexie Thomas, and 8 great grandchildren, His loving niece Lois Thomas, and many more nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on August 13th from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM, at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne, Ma, 02532, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Rite of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Road, Pocasset, ΜΑ 02559. Interment will immediately follow on
the same day at 11:30 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave. Bourne, Ma 02532. A reception will follow at the Brookside Club in Bourne.
