Tom was born on March 24th 1959 to the late Albert “Al” Mitchell and Virginia “Ginny” Mitchell (née Gecks) in Barrington, RI. His young life was spent first in Barrington and later in Osterville, MA. Tom then lived a life on the water as a commercial and sport fisherman, private boat captain, and expert boat salesman. His adventures took him from home bases on Cape Cod, and in Florida to catching 800 lb tuna off P-Town, down the eastern seaboard, to South America, and back again. He was most recently a resident of Sagamore Beach, MA.
Tom loved the ocean - Fishing on it, navigating it, talking about it, and showing people how amazing it is. He was a protector of the people he loved, quick to laugh, and quicker to offer you a cup of coffee or a seat at his table. He is deeply missed and unendingly loved.
Tom is survived by many who love him, both family and friends, including his partner of 28 years Carolyn Browne and her mother Elizabeth; his daughter Ali, her husband Jake, and her mother Linda; his brother Chip, brother Bruce and his wife Terri, brother Bill and his wife Pat; and nieces and nephews William Jr., Brian, Greg, Jennie, Kevin, Adam, Sara, and Daniel as well as their spouses and children.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on March 17th from 4pm-6pm at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home; 40 MacArthur Blvd. Bourne, MA. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6pm. Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the MSPCA-Angell.
