Michael Paul Conniff of Orleans passed away on Patriots Day (4/19/21) after a valiant fight with Covid-19. He was the beloved son of Shirley (Barnes) Conniff of Mansfield and the late James E. Conniff.
Michael was born on May 30, 1960 in Boston, Ma. He was raised in Mansfield, and graduated from South Eastern Vocational School in Easton. Shortly after, Mike enlisted in the Navy, where he continued to serve for 20+ years including the 1983 Beirut Conflict and the 1991 Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm). He spent many of his Navy days on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, among other Navy vessels. Mike’s military service was truly his proudest accomplishment. He later completed his military career with the Army National Guard until he retired.
Mike was a humble man, with a great sense of humor, who was loved by so many. He spent much of his free time at the “Hooch”, an organization for vets located on Cape Cod where he was surrounded by a tremendous network of friends. Mike was always there, without question for anyone in need of anything. He was an animal lover, and rescued dogs in need of homes. He loved taking his adored dogs, Willa and Tiny to the beach for runs, and dropping by to visit family. He also enjoyed time spent out boating with friends. Most recently, Mike worked with people with developmental disabilities, and took great enjoyment in being able to be a “helper”.
In addition to his mother, Shirley Conniff of Mansfield, Mike is survived by a large, loving family. He leaves behind his sister Cindy (Doncaster) Streeter and her husband Michael of Oviedo, Florida, brother Robert Conniff of Brighton, brother Kevin Conniff and his wife Jennifer of Buzzards Bay, and sister Kimberly Conniff and her partner, Sofiane Bendida of Fairhaven. He was predeceased by his sister Sandra (Doncaster) Bangs and brother James Conniff. He was also very much adored by his many nieces and nephews and will be most remembered as the “fun uncle”. Mike also leaves behind his very dear friend, Erin Elfers of Orleans.
Being the animal lover that Michael was, we kindly ask that in lieu of flowers that donations instead be made in Mike’s name to the Animal Rescue League of Boston- Brewster Location 3981 Main Street Brewster, MA 02631.
Visiting hours for Michael will be held from 12-2 PM on Friday April 30, 2021 at the Nickerson- Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd Bourne, Ma. His remains will then be brought to the Bourne National Cemetery for Military Funeral Honors at 2:30 PM.
