Marilyn H. Powers, aged 93, passed away peacefully on October 4th, 2024, in Bourne, Massachusetts after a long and wonderful life. Born on February 3, 1931, Marilyn dedicated much of her life to serving others, both through her career and personal endeavors. She worked for the Department of Public Works and later, served as the Director of Volunteer Services at Lakeville Hospital contributing significantly to her hospital community.
A woman of deep faith, Marilyn was an active member of St. John The Evangelist Church in Pocasset, where she participated in various church activities. Her independent spirit was complemented by a warm sense of humor and a profound dedication to her family and friends. Known for being a wonderful cook, Marilyn enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings and ensuring everyone felt at home.
Marilyn’s hobbies included playing cards with the ladies, solving crossword puzzles, reading, sewing, and knitting. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories on Cape Cod.
She is survived by her sons, Michael F Powers and his wife Lucy and James S Powers; her daughter, Betsy Ferrari and her husband Jack; grandchildren, Timothy, Sherrie, Katelyn, Michael, Jonathan, and Julia; great-grandchildren, Shalyn, Jarrod, Miya, and Wendy, and great -great granddaughter Reya. Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis J. Powers, and her parents, Richard and Jane Smerdon of Taunton.
Visitation to honor Marilyn's life will be held on Tuesday, October 15th from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral on 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Parish, 841 Shore Rd., Pocasset, MA. Burial is private. The family welcomes all who knew Marilyn to join in celebrating her remarkable life.
