She was born to the late Beatrice (Bebe) and Kaare Karstad, Dec. 9, 1979, in Princeton, NJ. Her family moved to Cape Cod in 1991 to be closer to family and help take care of her maternal Grandmother. As a child she spent many summers with her sister and cousins going to the Cataumet Club Camp where she learned to sail, swim and play tennis.
KariAnna graduated from Bourne High School in 1998. In 2002, she obtained a Bachelor’s of Science – Marketing from UMASS Dartmouth. She married her sweetheart in 2006 and was the Front Desk Manager at a local salon and spa where her social and friendly attitude allowed her to excel and shine.
KariAnna had a passion for cooking and enjoyed finding new dishes to create and share with family. She loved to read, watch movies, travel and spend time at the beach. A couple of her favorite destinations were Norway, to visit family, and Aruba to relax and enjoy the sunshine. One of her fondest trips was to Hawaii with her mother, sister and boyfriend the summer before her mother passed.
She was an animal lover from the beginning, growing up with cats and dogs. Later, she was able to spend many years with her beloved American Staffordshire, Molly, along with one of her puppies, Penny. She also enjoyed spending time with her sister’s dog Riley “black beauty”.
KariAnna leaves behind her loving sister, Katrine Smith, and brother-in-law Brian Smith along with her nephew and niece, Owen and Avery Smith, of Lakeville, MA, and her former spouse, Judah Branagan of Andover, MA. She will also be missed by family and friends here in the US as well as in Norway.
A memorial service in her honor will be held at 10:00am Saturday November 6th at the Cataumet United Methodist Church, 1093 County Road, Cataumet. Burial will be private directly after the service. There will be a gathering at The Flying Bridge, 220 Scranton Ave, Falmouth, following the service starting at 11:30am.
