Karen Raulene Carafoli

Karen Raulene (Erickson) Carafoli, 75, of Sagamore Beach died peacefully on Monday, September 23rd at home surrounded by her family, friends and beloved pups after a long illness. She is survived by her husband Richard, her son Jonathan and wife Debra Carafoli from Pocasset, her daughter Amy her husband Paul Pires from Sagamore Beach. She was the sister of James Erickson (deceased) of Marston’s Mills.

She leaves behind four beautiful grandchildren, Anna Pete, Daniel Michael, Ella Kinsman and Thomas Joseph.

Karen graduated from Sandwich High School and subsequently the Faulkner School of Nursing in 1969. She has stayed close with several friends from high school and her Faulkner family has been a pillar of her life ever since.

She worked at the Jordan Hospital (now Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth) for over 40 years before she retired. She started her nursing career in the coronary care unit where she cared for the sickest patients and made lifelong friendships with her peers. She went on to achieve her Masters of Science in Nursing which allowed her to passionately initiate the first cardiac rehab program at Jordan Hospital, and eventually move into a leadership position within the staff education department where she was able to share her love of nursing and caring for others on a larger scale. She was loved and respected throughout the organization.

She loved to sew and paint, creating beautiful quilts or painted heirlooms for family and friends to mark momentous occasions or simply for their enjoyment. She and her husband were involved in Companion Animal Program (CAP) where she served as a board member and brought reading and comfort to schools and nursing homes with their two Golden Retrievers Mia and Molly. She loved each of her grandchildren deeply and was extremely proud of them and could be found at any and every of their sporting or performing arts events.
