He was born in Selma, AL on September 9, 1933, a son of Percy and Estelle (Goldsby) Anderson. He married Elizabeth Bundy on February 14, 1975 in Las Vegas. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2015.
He is survived by his children, Lesley Anderson, Kim Cruz Anderson both of New Bedford, MA, Cathy Fields Dias of Surprise, AZ, a nephew Clarence (Donna) Campbell of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Also surviving are his siblings, Pauline Grooms of Cleveland, OH, Tim Anderson of Chicago, IL, Jesse (Barbara) Anderson of Selma, AL, Percy Anderson Jr. of Selma AL, George Campbell of Birmingham, AL, Johnnie (Janie) Hardy of Chicago, IL, and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and stepchildren.
Joseph served in the US Air Force for over 20 years. He then retired as Fire Chief from the Tustin Fire Department in California after more than 20 years of service. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking. He took pride in keeping his yard pristine and flying the American Flag. People gravitated to him and the world is a better place because of his presence.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 on Saturday at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 East Grove, Rantoul, IL.
He will be buried in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA on February 2, 2024 at 10:45 a.m.
