He leaves his beloved wife, Patricia (Ryan) Stebbins, treasured children Michael (wife Pamela), Joseph (wife Teresa), and daughter Cynthia Stebbins Hall, with whom he shared a special father-daughter bond. He was predeceased by son Mark (wife Carol) last January 26th.
Also grandson Marcus Stebbins, and children Madelyn, Kaitlin, Michael, Lennon and Delaney of Toledo, Ohio: and Aric Walker and children Austin, Andrew and Karli of Gulf Breeze, Florida.
John was a quiet man who enjoyed his home and family, reading history books, tinkering with anything mechanical, loved the ‘Crimson Tide’ football team and a lifetime model railroad hobby.
He was born in Chestnut Hill MA to the late Helen and John Lowell Stebbins. He graduated from the Browne & Nichols School and attended Boston University before entering the U.S. Army and seeing action in the Korean War.
Upon returning from Korea he worked for the Tetley Tea Company in sales and later joined MA Blue Cross/Blue Shield as a Senior Representative until his retirement. He and Pat moved to Sandwich and became active members of Corpus Christi Parish. He served as an Usher and Sacristan and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Mass. Bay Railroad Enthusiasts Club, the Sandwich Republican Town Committee and for years was a regular, early morning walker at the Cape Cod Mall, enjoying coffee and friendship with many of his fellow walkers.
Services for John will be held at Corpus Christi Church,on Friday, January 24th.
Visitation will take place at the Church at 10:00 am followed by Mass at 11:00. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Mass remembrances or donations to the Corpus Christi Parish Library are suggested.
