John Anthony Gallo, lifelong resident of Sagamore, was born March 13, 1938 and died at the age of 75 on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Cape Cod Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Harrington Gallo. He was a 1956 graduate of Bourne High School where he was a star athlete in football and basketball. He went on to study at a Prep School in Pittsfield, Maine from 1956 to 1957. John then attended Texas Christian University from 1957 to 1959 after which he served in the U.S. Army for two years. After his military service, he joined Gallo Construction Company. Upon the death of his father, John Gallo, in 1978, he and his brother Louis took over the operation of the Company until John retired in 2001. He was currently working for Sam Larusso at Cape Cod Aggregates. He was an avid sports fan especially his New England Patriots. He even named one of his race horses, “Belichek”. He was the family storyteller (sometimes embellished but always true). He was a friend to many, loved by all and generous to a fault. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Gallo and Alide Giovo Gallo and his son Anthony “Jon-Jon” Gallo. He is survived by his daughter Heather Gallo, his sisters Eleanor McMichen, and Cecilia Collins and brother Louis Gallo. Also surviving are his stepchildren Christy, Michael, Steven and Kathleen Harrington, his grandchildren, Anthony Gallo, Hannah Cardoza, Ben and Leah Harrington. He is also survived by his devoted friends, Kenny and Wayne Mize. Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 9 PM on Tuesday, June 4, at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 5, at 10:30 AM at Corpus Christi Parish, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, East Sandwich. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
