George graduated from Bourne High School. After which he joined the Bourne Police Department as a seasonal Police Officer for a few years. He then went on to earn a certificate as a paralegal. In 1991 he met the love of his life Deborah (D’Angelo) Sala. He knew she was the one for him as he proposed to her shortly after and they were married the next year in 1992.
The two of them spent so much time together that they decided to own a Vacuum Sales/Repair Shop in Buzzards Bay together. In 1998 they closed the shop so George could pursue a lifelong career in the Town of Bourne DPW. George became the Superintendent of the DPW in 2012 where he dedicated all his time to making the Town of Bourne a remarkable place to live and visit. He took great pride in all his hard work. We nicknamed him the “Mayor” because of his involvement as a representative of many committees and boards in the town.
George worked extremely hard but also found the time to be present in all his children and grandchildren’s lives. He never missed a game or a school function. He loved his family vacations to Florida. George loved the quality time he had with his Wife and family during the summer and winter camping in NH.
George is predeceased by his siblings Mark Sala and Cherie Sala Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Cannon Sala, and his children, Robert Cannon Jr and his wife Jennifer of Marston Mills, MA, Brian Cannon of Sagamore Beach, MA, and Andrea Cannon and her husband Steve Servidori of Bourne MA. George also leaves behind his nieces Lauren (Rogers) Robbins of Wareham, MA, and Brianna (Rogers) Lopes of Deltona, FL. He is also survived by his Grandchildren Ashley, Hailee, Tanner, Karlee, Robert III, Christopher, Willow, Brian Jr., Brody and his great grandchildren Khol, Wilhelmina and Phoebe.
A visitation will be held at Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home, located at 40 MacArthur Blvd Bourne, MA on Tuesday June 6, 2023, from 3 PM to 8PM. A funeral service will take place at the St Margaret of Scotland Church, located at 141 Main Street Buzzards Bay, MA on Wednesday June 7, 10 AM
