Born in Cambridge Mass, he was the son of Albert and Melina Bass. He was the youngest of eight children. He joined the Air Force in 1953 to see the world, and ended up serving through two world conflicts. He spent two years in Vietnam and was decorated for his service.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1973, he worked as a Mechanic in Hyannis, MA. Never satisfied, he studied and received his Fireman's license and worked as a Power Plant Engineer at the Mass. Maritime Academy until he retired in 1981.
He enjoyed fishing in his later years with his wife Jean, and watched the Red Sox. He loved animals and had many dogs over the years.
He is survived by his wife Jean Bass, their son Richard Bass and three grandchildren; Ahleah, Ricky and Alex Bass, all of Buzzards Bay.
He had a great sense of humor, always with a quick wit, a funny remark or the ability to make even the worst situation not seem so bad. He will be missed.
