He was 94.
Born on November 10th, 1929, he grew up in Morrisville VT and attended the University of Vermont earning a varsity letter on the shooting team.
Weldon was a shooting instructor in the Vermont National Guard and served in I Company of the 172nd Infantry Regiment at Warner Kaserne near Munich, Germany.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, a Master’s degree in Forestry from Michigan State University and he made his career as a forester with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
In 1959, Weldon met Doris Faye Hallock on a ski trip in northern lower Michigan. They married in 1960 and raised three sons: Jim, Tom and Dan.
Monty taught his sons to ski and served as a volunteer in the National Ski Patrol for over 40 years at the Lansing Ski Club, Thunder Mountain, Boyne Mountain and Eldora Mountain Resort near Boulder, Colorado.
Vintage Corvettes were his passion and he was a member of the National Corvette Restorer’s Society in Michigan and Colorado earning a Master Judge award in 2016.
Monty climbed all of Colorado’s 14’ers starting at age 60 and finishing at 75 with many of the toughest climbs in his 70’s.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Ellen, his sister Julia (William) and his brother Dale (Shirley). He is survived by his wife Doris, his sons James (Janet), Thomas (Darla), and Daniel (Siv), grandchildren Stephanie (Anthony) Ritter, Evan, Anna (Christopher) McMahon, Mitchell, Christina, and Kimberly, and one (very) great-grandchild, Judah.
