Vicki was born in Plainview, Texas, on December 31, 1943, to Roy Milton and Clara Carolyn Young. After Vicki graduated from Sandia High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she earned a degree in Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico.
Vicki was deeply involved in the art community of Boulder, as an artist, a partner in the all-women-owned Lodestone Gallery, a window designer at The Printed Page bookstore and Brooks Faber women’s clothing store, a collaborator in multidisciplinary performances with The Story Gleaner, and a partner in 8th & Pearl Antiques. Her artistic talent and skill as a picker helped make the Pearl Street Mall a special place and her sense of design made the shops she touched some of the most beloved in Boulder. Her laughter, friendly banter and curious nature are remembered by many.
Vicki’s imagination and artistry also led her to design costumes and museum installations. Her work was seen everywhere from Chautauqua’s Children’s Music Festival to the Boulder Public Library to the Denver Art Museum and Colorado elementary and preschools. Old-time Boulderites may even recall seeing her life-size camel costume walking down the street on occasion!
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law Matthew Zafiratos. She is survived by James Bzura, Heidi and Daemon Filson, Lars Filson, Paul and Yin Chen “Pearl” Murray, Clara Murray, Sadie Murray, Kendra Zafiratos and Ian Zafiratos.
Vicki’s family wishes to express their sincere thanks to her friends and caregivers at Frasier Meadows for their loving care. The family does not have plans for services available at this time.
