Margaret Grace Peterson died peacefully August 24th, 2015, at Boulder Community Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. Margaret was a loyal and loving Mother and devoted to her family and friends. She loved books, spirituality, writing, learning and travel. Margaret was born to Elizabeth and Herbert Carpenter on July 19th, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from Wichita High School North in 1962. She graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor's in Education from The University of Kansas. She married her high-school boyfriend, Victor Suhm, June 25th, 1965 and they later moved to Boulder, CO, divorcing in 1970. Margaret taught elementary grades in Boulder for over 20 years and was a devoted teacher. On November 21st, 1971, Margaret married Gil Sackheim. They had two, much loved children, Jonathan and Jill. They enjoyed family trips and many child and family centered activities. Gil and Margaret divorced in 1988. Margaret met the love of her life, Jim Peterson, in 1988. Margaret and Jim married on January 1st, 1992. They lived a very fulfilling, busy life with five children between them, travel, friends and work. Jim struggled with prostate cancer for 13 years and died on February 2nd, 2010. Margaret loved travel and saw 48 states. She was thrilled to finally travel to Europe for the first time in 1996, seeing Paris, Switzerland and Germany. Her trips with Jim to Ireland, Italy, and a Panama Canal cruise, were highlights. She and Jim took nine cruises in four years. Their two week trip to China in 1990 was their most exotic excursion. Margaret was a joiner and loved her groups of friends, who were an incredibly meaningful part of her life. Margaret was a member of First Congregational Church in Boulder for 36 years. She belonged to a book group for over 30 years. She helped form a Women's Spirituality Group, which continues today. She also belonged to Tri Delta sorority in College, ADK, University Women's Club, and Jabberwalkies, a hiking and book group. Margaret spent many hours writing, reading and with her beloved grandchildren. She loved books and encouraged others to read. She volunteered at church and to promote literacy. Margaret loved exploring new places, learning and sharing in friendships. Margaret's twin 4.5 yr. old granddaughters, Ellie and Abby adored her. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Margaret is survived by her children: Jonathan Sackheim and Jill (Josh) Price; grandchildren: Isabella Sackheim, Ellie, Abigail and Ethan Price; stepdaughters: Andrea Peterson, Jennifer Peterson, and Kristy Kuster; and step-grandson: Odin Kuster. A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Sat., Sept. 12th at First Congregational Church in Boulder, followed by a celebration of life at Jonathan, her son's house, in Boulder.
