Janis A. Tracy - 76, Went to be with the Lord after a brief battle with colon cancer. Janis passed away January 26, 2017, at Life Care Center in Longmont, CO. Janis was raised in Lafayette, CO by her mother, Agnes A. Stewart and loving step-father, Thomas Stewart. Janis graduated from Lafayette High School in 1958, married Maximo Yabes in 1964. Together they lived in Hawaii until Max was sent to Vietnam in 1965 at which time she returned to Lafayette, CO. Max was killed in action, and Janis received his Congressional Medal of Honor and Purple Heart on his behalf in 1967. Janis went on to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1972-1975 and enjoyed a 23-year career as Post Master at the Eldorado Springs, CO Post Office. She volunteered on behalf of Sacred Heart of Mary's Church for 8 years at the Boulder Manor nursing home.
On May 20, 1989, she married her current husband, Jim Tracy who had been a 15 year Boulder resident and native of Bronx, NY. Together they enjoyed traveling abroad to many countries spanning five continents. Janis and Jim moved to Chandler, AZ enjoying 15 years of outdoor activities like golf and tennis before returning to Colorado in 2010. Janis is survived by her husband, Jim Tracy and his children, Kerry Roper, Denise Kalfas, Eileen Knab and Stephen Tracy, her brother, Gary Nace & Nephew Douglas Nace. In addition, she is survived by loving grandchildren, Adrianna Tracy, Anthony Tracy, Liam Roper, Aidan Roper, Daniel Kalfas, Ryan Kalfas along with many extended family members.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 3rd from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 4th at 10:00 a.m. with an hour viewing beforehand at Crist Mortuary.
Interment will be at Sacred Heart of Mary following the funeral, and a gathering with refreshments will be served after the graveside service.
