Daniel Alan Hersh passed away peacefully January 25, 2019, at his home, “The Barn,” in Boulder, CO. He was born July 14, 1945, to Henry Daniel Hersh and Margaret Ann Hersh in Allentown, PA. Dan was a graduate of Lafayette College (BA Economics with Distinction) and University of Pittsburgh (MBA Finance).
He had a 30-year career in the aviation industry beginning with Eastern Airlines as a Sr. Financial Analyst, then as a VP of Planning at Frontier Airlines. He was a founding shareholder at ValuJet Airlines (AirTran) and JetBlue Airways, with responsibilities including strategic and market planning, capital raising, and managing IPOs. Dan’s career concluded with planning and consulting roles at WestJet, easyJet, and Frontier Airlines. He also co-founded Acapella’s Restaurant in Denver, CO, with his brother John.
Dan was fortunate to retire early and pursue his passions, which included creative design and renovation of residential buildings, including a tropical, plantation-style home in Harbour Island, The Bahamas, several homes in Boulder, CO, and a work-in-progress home in Salida, CO, to be named “Legacy on the River.”
Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Judith Kohring Hersh. He is also survived by his son Matthew Kohring Hersh (Tanya), grandchildren Hazel Ann Hersh and Hans Lee Hersh, and his brother John David Hersh (Joni).
His memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, February 2nd at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 1680 Balsam Ave., Boulder, CO 80304.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Lustgarten Foundation (https://www.lustgarten.org) to fund pancreatic cancer research.
