Born September 11, 1954. Died peacefully at home in Boulder of cancer October 31, 2010. Cindy was the cherished wife of Daniel Murphy and the devoted and proud mother of Miles Murphy and Gavin Murphy.
Cindy is also survived by her parents Robert and Martha Troxell of Port Arthur, Texas, sister Donna (Frank) Oberle of Beaumont, Texas, brother Steve (Nettie) Troxell of Katy, Texas, her mother-in-law Adell Murphy of Hales Corners, Wis., brothers- and sisters-in-law Michael (Joanne) Murphy of Columbus, Ohio; Tim Murphy of Beloit, Wis; Kathleen Nolan (Brian Beyer) of Pewaukee, Wis., and many other relatives and friends.
Cindy attended the honors program at the University of Texas and graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in botany. She received a master’s degree in environmental biology and a PhD in molecular biology, both from the University of Colorado. She did research on motor proteins at National Jewish Hospital, the University of California, Davis, and the University of Colorado in Boulder. She later devoted herself to raising her children and helping the community.
Cindy was a beloved member of the Boulder Friends Meeting (Quakers), where she volunteered extensively. Her work with the Religious Education Committee and teaching the children helped to create a vibrant program. She encouraged participation in activities such Crop Walk. She also volunteered at Bear Creek Elementary, her sons’ middle schools, and helped with Cub Scouts, soccer, and numerous other activities. She also continuously helped people in informal ways.
Cindy had a long interest in natural areas. She helped promote the Big Thicket preserve in Texas, did field research in Rocky Mountain National Park, was a member of the Boulder County Nature Association, and wrote the newsletter for the Andrews Family Organic Farm.
A Quaker memorial service will be held at 1 pm on November 20 at A Spice of Life with coffee and refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Friends Service Committee or the Big Thicket Association. Wthank all those who helped with Cindy’s care and helped our family during her cancer.
