Our family suffered a profound loss on July 11, 2024, with the passing of Alec Parkin, 30, surrounded by his loved ones. Alec’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void in our lives. Alec fought a six-year, courageous battle with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Sarcoma.
Born on October 4, 1993, in Atlanta, GA, to William and Sharon Parkin, Alec grew up in Alpharetta, GA, and later moved to Colorado Springs, CO. He graduated from Liberty High School in 2012 and then attended the University of Colorado Boulder.
Alec left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He was deeply loving, consistently ensuring other’s well-being and happiness ahead of his own. His extraordinary talent for making each person feel as though they were the most important to him, is why he is so loved by many. He had a goofy and endearing sense of humor that was uniquely his and will be remembered for his ability to make others laugh. Alec was intelligent, driven, and ambitious, and he was the best son, brother, friend, and life partner one could ask for.
As a sports enthusiast, Alec played baseball and basketball in high school and was an avid supporter of the Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and especially his beloved CU Buffs. Known for hosting the best tailgates, Alec always knew how to bring friends and family together. On the weekends, you could find Alec golfing, playing video games, hiking, and exploring Colorado’s food and beer scene.
Alec’s drive was demonstrated though his many achievements. While at CU, Alec earned a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Operations and Information Management, as well as a Certificate in Real Estate from the Leeds School of Business. After graduating in 2016, Alec worked at Charles Schwab as a Sr. Product Manager earning multiple awards for his contributions and was a proud leader of Charles Schwab’s Intern Academy.
Alec is survived by the love of his life, Lauren Sweeney, whom he met in college. They shared almost nine wonderful years together, filled with extensive travel, adventures in the Colorado mountains, and building their home in Englewood, CO. Alec is also survived by his parents, William and Sharon Parkin of Colorado Springs; his brother, Andrew Parkin, and his fiancée, Lauren; his sister, Allie Hoffman, and her husband, Justin; his maternal grandmother, Joan Behrendt; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved dog, Banks. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Don Behrendt, and his paternal grandparents, Charles and Nancy Parkin.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Friday, July 19th at Mountain View United Methodist Church in Boulder starting with the visitation at 10:30am followed by the service at 12:30pm. A reception and celebration of life will be held at the CU Folsom Field Rooftop Terrace located in the Champions Club at 2:00pm (2150 Colorado Ave. Boulder, CO).
