John "Jack" Conroy

John Phillip Conroy, age 60 of Boston, Massachusetts passed away on March 8, 2022 of natural causes. Son of the late Joseph F Conroy and Helen Maude Conroy. Loving Brother to Teresa and her husband Carl Durk of Pocatello, Idaho, Mary and her husband John Perry of Plymouth, Marion and her husband William Burton of Carver, Elaine and her husband Kenneth Spink of Pocatello, Idaho and the late Joseph F Conroy Jr and Clare Conroy, several nieces and nephews, and his former wife, Diane Shields. John fulfilled his life by surrounding himself with loving friends who meant the world to him.

John was born and raised in Hingham, Massachusetts. Growing up he loved playing hockey, whiffle ball and baseball with the neighborhood kids. As a child John was intrigued with how roads and bridges connected and loved drawing maps and watching TV sports with the family. At the start of every game John proudly stood with his hand over his heart for the National Anthem. He graduated from Hingham High School in 1980 and continued his education later, attending broadcasting school in Florida.

John started his career in the supply chain industry coordinating shipping of goods by air and road. He then went into traffic reporting beginning at Smart Routes in Boston in the late 1990’s and continued with Metro Networks. John's most recent position was a Producer for the morning drive segment at Total Traffic/Weather in Boston. He was on the job before dawn each day to gather traffic data and prepare reports for the anchors. John was highly respected by the traffic community with his broad knowledge and strong work ethic.

John is remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit and clever jokes. He was always up to making those around him laugh. John had an undeniable love of all Boston sports teams. He most loved the Red Sox & the Bruins but he watched many other teams. He used his vacation time so he could watch the baseball playoffs no matter what teams were in it. His colleagues enjoyed listening to his play by play critiques of the announcers. John loved music especially the 70’s. He believed The Beatles were the greatest band of all time.

John loved his career in the traffic business and knew the streets in and around Boston like the back of his hand. He thought the city of Boston was the greatest city in the world and would never live anywhere else. John was remembered by his colleagues for his passion of reporting traffic, sports and music. He was more than a coworker to them. He was a mentor and a true friend.

A celebration of Johns life will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 11am in the J.S. Waterman-Langone Chapel, 580 Commercial St., Boston. COMPLIMENTARY PARKING ATTENDANTS WILL BE AT FRONT DOOR.
