Milton “Mut Mut” Bishop, 71, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at his home with his wife by his side. He was born August 14, 1939, to Jack and Rachel Downs Bishop. Milton attended New Site, Jumpertown, Hills Chapel, and Rienzi Schools. He was member of Rienzi Baptist Church, President of the Rienzi Rescue Squad, board member of the Corinth-Alcorn Emergency management Agency, a member of the Corinth Civil Defense, President of the Rienzi Lions Club, former member of the Jaycees where he was Jaycee of the Year, former member of the Rienzi Fire Department, helped with the Rienzi 4x4 club and a former member of the Rienzi Merchant Association.
He had been in law enforcement since 1958. He has served as a deputy in Old Mill Creek, IL, worked as a deputy or reserve deputy for Grady Bingham, Ralph Lambert, Edwin Coleman, Jack Holt, Bill Gant, Jimmy Taylor and Charles Rinehart. Milton served as Rienzi Town Marshall for many years. He also worked as a reserve deputy for Prentiss County under Farrell Brumley, Bud Michael and Randy Tolar. He was also a Rienzi bus driver for many years. He has been a mink worker, farmer, used car dealer and a store owner with his wife Carolyn for 29 years. He, Carolyn, and the late Bobby Stacy started the Rienzi Christmas Parade and worked many benefits. Milton’s hobbies were being with his family and friends and running rabbits with his dogs.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 18, 2011, at the Rienzi Baptist Church with Bro. Franklin Wilson, Bro. Charlie Cooper, Bro. Titus Tyer and Bro. Jerry Kelly officiating and Roger Voyles delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Danville Baptist Church Cemetery. Services are under the direction of McMillan Funeral Home.
He is survived his loving wife, Carolyn Moore Bishop, whom he married on May 20, 1961; two sisters, Martha “Polly” Robinson and family and Betty Turvaville and family; sisters- in- law and brothers- in- law, Geneva Bishop and family, Inez Bishop Wilson and husband Frank and family, Cathy Moore and family, Wayne and Maylene Moore and family and Bill and Sue Moore Hively and family; caretakers, Kenny and Linda Monroe and family, Lori and Josh Hammock and Brandon Moore and family; several nieces, nephews, great-neices and nephews, and other family.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vickie Ann Bishop; his parents; his in-laws, Rev. James H and Pauline Moore; his brothers, Vick Bishop and wife Joyce, Aaron Bishop and wife Vera, Gene Bishop, and George Bishop; brothers–in-law, Paul Moore, Jerry Moore, L.W. Robinson and Trenton Turvaville; sisters, Hazel Isabell and husband Clyde; Inez Williams and husband Lewis and Nellie Murphy and husband A.V.
Pallbearers are Brandon Moore, Larry Isbell, Dustin Moore, Paul Moore, Bobby Bishop and Jimmy Bishop.
Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Bishop, David Bishop, Kenneth Bishop, Jackie Robinson, Richard Murphy and Johnny Bishop, members of the Rienzi-Alcorn Rescue Squad, Corinth-Alcorn Emergency Management Agency and Alcorn and Prentiss law enforcement.
Visitation will start at Noon on Thursday, February 18, 2011, at the church.
