Maxine “Mackie” Weeks McAlpin , died Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at home. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, a long time poll worker at Blackland, Member of the Democratic Executive Committee, Kappa Kappa Iota, Mississippi Association of Educators, and she was a past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star, and a retired educator of 43 years.
She was a proud member of the Blackland Community and instrumental in publishing Treasures From The Past & Present - Blackland, Osborne and Oak Hill. She was a founding member and trustee of the Blackland Cemetery. She was an avid supporter of Ole Miss and Col. Reb.
Services will be at 3:00 pm Friday, February 19, 2016 at McMillan Funeral Home of Booneville, with Bro. Burt Harper and Dr. Walter Downs officiating. Burial will be in the Blackland Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy (Bob) Higgins of Booneville and Jill McAlpin of Roswell, GA; two sons, Michael (Cheryl) McAlpin of Atlanta and Danny Joe McAlpin of Booneville; six grandchildren, Diana Pounds, Matthew McAlpin, Holly Pippin, Ben Davison, Michael Higgins, and David Higgins; and two great grandchildren, Erin and Tristan Davison. Special friends were Patsy Hill Johnson, Louise LeCroy Sanders, and her former students.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L.L. “Mac” McAlpin; one infant sister, Katheryn Sue Weeks; and her parents, Jordan “Mac” and Jessie Box Weeks.
Visitation will be 4-8 pm on Thursday, February 18, 2016 and until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
