2018 after a short stay at Longwood Community Living Center in Booneville. He was born in
Prentiss County, on the 4th of November 1926, to Noonon Orlando and Augusta Ann (Gussie)
McCoy Hopkins. He lived in Prentiss County his entire life and worked hard whether behind a
mule or picking cotton, he always gave it his best. He attended school at Tuscumbia, Hills
Chapel, Zions Rest and Booneville until World War II. He served in the United States Army
(1945-1946) in the Aleutian Island Campaign. After his service to our country he met and
married the love of his life, Gerlene Morgan, September 10th, 1947. They lived in the
Tuscumbia Community for 69 wonderful years.
J. C. was a member of Tuscumbia Baptist Church, where he helped build the first church. He
was known as a Christian man of great character and dignity who loved his fellow man and his
family. He was also a member of the Masonic Fraternity. He worked 22 years at Brown Shoe
Company and retired in 1988 from the Mississippi Department of Transportation. His hobbies
were hunting, fishing, watching sports on TV and playing Rook with his friends.
A celebration of life with Military Honors will be conducted at 3 pm on Sunday, July 8th at
McMillian Funeral Home with Bro. Ben Parman officiating and Roy Gray delivering the
eulogy. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time on Sunday with interment at
Tuscumbia Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steve Glenn, Linus Hare, Terry
Henderson, Danny Hill, Horace Huddleston, Buddy Pardue, Jimmy Shook, and Michael Walden.
He is survived by Sister-in-law, Jane (Bobby) Henson; Brother-in-law, Johnny (Brenda) Morgan;
Sister-in-law, Martha Hopkins, Sister-in-law, Joyce (Billy) Kendrick, and numerous nieces and
nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and parents; three sisters, Marie Hopkins (James) Lewis,
Moise Hopkins (Clyne) Crabb, Ilene Hopkins (Pat) Campbell; one brother, Clyde
Hopkins; Brother-in-law, Bobby Morgan; Nephew, Jerry Clyde Hopkins; Nieces Carolyn, Crabb
Raughton, and LaJuan Morgan Jordan
