Herschel Floyd Morgan, 83, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He was born May 31, 1931 to Elvert Matthew Morgan and Samantha Floyd Morgan Rinehart. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force. He retired from Brown Shoe and FMC Corporation. He was a member of the Woodman of the World. He was a fine Christian gentleman and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Booneville for over 50 years. Herschel may have been bias, but he believed he had the finest grandchildren in the world.
Mr. Morgan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend for life. He took great passion in working in his yard growing azaleas and blueberries. He loved basketball as a player at Pine Grove High School 1948-1951, Northeast Mississippi Junior College and within the Air Force. He remained an avid NEMCC, Booneville High School, Ole Miss and University of Georgia basketball fan.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 20, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Lynn Jones and Bro. Jason Dukes officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Morgan of Booneville; two sons, Gary H. (Cherri) Morgan of Anniston, AL and Mitch A. (Kim) Morgan of Tupelo; five grandchildren, Windham (Emily) Morgan of Brewton, AL, Maggie Morgan of Birmingham, AL, Garrison Morgan of Anniston, AL, Parker Morgan of Anniston, AL and MacKenzie Morgan of Tupelo. He had numerous devoted nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Blake Rinehart; three sisters, Charline Roberts, Earnestine Windham and Ann Rinehart and four brothers, Mancel, Pete, Joe and Jimmy Morgan.
Pallbearers will be Windham Morgan, Garrison Morgan, Parker Morgan, MacKenzie Morgan, Bill Morgan, Jerry Ivey and Richard Bullock. Honorary Pallbearers will be Isaac Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 5-8pm Saturday, July 19, 2014 at McMillan Funeral Home.
