Richard Louis Wojick, Sr. passed away in the comfort of his San Diego home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Born in Willimantic, Connecticut he was the son of Louis and Julia Wojick.
He graduated from Wyndham High School class of 1956 and attended the University of Connecticut and Air Force ROTC.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1958 and served 28 years in personnel, finance and accounting, retiring in the rank of Senior MSgt. His duties included tours in France, Vietnam and Thailand with over 30 moves during his career. He was on the Air Force golf and bowling teams winning numerous prestigious awards. His military decorations included the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart.
In 1985 he moved to San Diego, joined the US Postal Service and retired in December, 2011 after 26 years of service. In February 1986 he married Editha Capuyan.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years Editha; his children Richard Wojick Jr of Dayton, OH.; Stephen Wojick of Duluth, GA; Deborah Barnes (Wojick) of Tampa, FL; their mother, Constance; Joel Capuyan, US Navy, Japan and Tonette Alcantara of San Diego, CA. He has 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother Allen of Willimantic, CT.
Visiting hours are Saturday, October 13th 5pm to 9pm, Chapel of the Roses and Sunday, October 14th, main chapel 5pm to 9pm – Glen Abbey Memorial Park, Bonita. Rosary will begin at 6pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am, Monday October 15th, St. Charles Catholic Church, San Diego with interment to follow at Glen Abbey Memorial Park.
