Richard “Dick” Hackett, 87, formerly of Lowell, MA, Portsmouth, RI and Glendale, AZ, joined his Heavenly Father on August 4, 2022 in National City, CA. He departed holding the hand of his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara (Gibau) and surrounded by his children. Dick was born in Lowell, MA the son of the late William and Estelle (Charron) Hackett.
He joined the Navy and proudly served as an Air Controller/Radarman out of Midway Island in Hawaii. It was there that he met the love of his life. Dick and Barbara settled in Portsmouth, RI where he worked for Raytheon – Submarine Signal Division as a Cost Estimator and raised their four children. He utilized his GI Bill benefit and graduated from Johnson and Wales College with his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. They later moved to Glendale, AZ where Dick worked for Honeywell/Bull. He was active in Girl Scouts, in their Catholic parish and with Catholic Charities of Phoenix.
In his free time, Dick was never seen without his camera and was always supporting his children in their extracurricular activities. He left a photographic legacy full of love and family that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. His hobbies included traveling, camping, woodworking, drawing and spending time with his photography. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Paul (Jennifer) Hackett, his three daughters – Colleen Hackett, Maria (Paul) Lang and Laurie (Greg) Kunz, four grandsons – Forrest, Noah, Alexander and Bailey, two granddaughters – Emily and Audrey, his sister Mrs. Patricia Cashman, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral mass will be held at a future date and he will be interred at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ.
