Melvin H. McBroome, III – “Mel”, of Chula Vista, California, passed away on May 13, 2024. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 31 years, Teresa, their children, Marc and Sara; Mother, Maria McBroome; Brother, Miles McBroome; Sisters, Maria (David) Armesto, Linda McBroome, Laura (Jim) Dixon, Cathy (Pat) Bohnert, and Cecelia (Ty) Kreamer; and numerous nephews and nieces including those that he fathered from his heart, Leslie Inguanzo, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Preceding him in death were his Father, Melvin H. McBroome, Jr.; Brother, Maynard McBroome; and Nephew, Michael McBroome.
Mel was born in San Diego and lived most of his life in San Diego except for the years when his father served in the Armed Forces and was stationed in the South. He also lived in Dahlonega, Georgia; Eglin Air Force Base, Florida; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he graduated from Reid Ross High School.
Mel was a friendly, loving, kind, and generous person who would strike up a conversation with anyone that came his way. He would especially speak to young people to encourage and motivate them to work hard towards their goals. He was a surfer, loved watching sports, and was a great storyteller. He was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his large family.
In the last four years of his life, Mel valiantly fought against ALS. He was proud of the fact that he continued to work as a sales manager until his passing and visited his Mom daily to take her to the American Legion. He left a great impression and indelible mark on those that met him, and he will be missed. He was deeply loved, and his family is comforted that he passed peacefully surrounded in love by his family that he loved so much.
