Juan Hernandez Castillo, also known as “Johnny”, was born January 28, 1932 in San Miguel, Santo Tomas, Batangas, Philippines. He lived a full and happy life of 91 years. He was the oldest of 5 children to Simprosa and Ezekiel Castillo.
Juan met the love of his life and beloved wife, Puring Nazareth in primary school in the 4th grade at Santo Tomas Central Elementary School. Johnny joined the US Navy in the mid 1950’s where he started his career stationed in Japan. On New Years Day 1958, Johnny and Puring married. Johnny was later stationed in Coronado, Guam, Hawaii, Washington D.C., Florida, and finally San Diego. During his military career, Johnny was honored to have worked for President Richard M. Nixon. He often spoke of this time of his life where a poor boy from the Philippines is now working for the President of the United States.
Johnny is survived by his four children, Carol, Eric, Clyde and Cathy. He spent 40+ years watching his kids have children. He loved all of his grandchildren, Anthony, Vince, Chelsea, Michael, Spencer, Tiffany, Madelyn, Matthew, John, and Malyna. He also loved his great grandchildren, Ares, Julian, Lily and Maggie.
Johnny was a hard worker and excelled in all of his jobs. He was also a great handyman, always fixing things around the house. Johnny believed in family and the importance of God. He became a Eucharist minister and prayed daily. Bowling was his favorite hobby. He was still bowling in a league all the way up to his last days of life. Along with bowling, he also enjoyed going to the casino. He definitely enjoyed his last years enjoying life doing the things that made him happy.
