The Journey – Ernestina G. Vogel
Ernestina was born September 6, 1928, in El Roble Concordia Sinaloa Mexico. She was the daughter of Salvador Garcia Valenzia and Beatriz Peraza Bernal. Ernestina was one of seventeen siblings and grew up in Rosario Mexico. Her siblings were: Tereso, Maria de Rosario, Beatriz, Rigoberto, Eva, Lilly, Salvador, Juanita, Conchita, Maria de Jesus, Martha, Celida, Manuel, Pedro, Conchita, Francisco, Enrique.
Ernestina married Lucio Gilberto Solorzano Gonzalez on October 4, 1954, in Tijuana Baja California Mexico. They had three daughters, Laura Elena, Martha Beatriz, and Susana Marina. She moved her family to San Diego after the unexpected deaths of her husband and baby Laura Elena to be close to her sisters. Times were tough, but the family’s love and faith was strong. She worked cleaning houses and made personal sacrifices to provide a lovely home and education for Martha and Susana.
Ernestina met and married John Joseph Vogel Jr. on April 1, 1967. John was serving in the US Navy and naturally they relocated several times as he served his country. John Vogel Jr. passed away on December 23, 1986. They had two sons, John J. Vogel II and Michael Andrew Vogel. Tina was a devoted wife and mother. She always put the family first and enjoyed what she did as a mother. She always dressed her best no matter what she was doing. Michael Andrew passed away on August 23, 2019.
Ernestina enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were creating flower arrangements, crafting, and watching her novellas. One of her favorite things was to share her joy of cooking with anyone that that visited. She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed watching everyone enjoy the food. There is no doubt that she is anywhere except in heaven. I am sure she is making tortilla soup and all the other Mexican dishes, especially rice, for the angels.
Ernestina lived a great, happy, and overall healthy life. She was blessed to see her children grow, marry, and start their families. She had five grandchildren – Laura Elena and Ronnie Tuttle, Kassandra and Kevin Vogel, and Jennifer Murphy. Jennifer passed away on August 15, 1988. She loved spending time with her grand-children and great-grandchildren. They are fortunate to have the memories they shared with her.
Her faith and humble manner taught us all what is important in life - to love and believe, support and care for friends and family in our lives. We are all better off for having her in our lives as family and friends. It was an honor and great privilege to have her as our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and mother-in-law.
Ernestina’s Catholic faith was deep and unwavering. She loved going to church and believed in the power of prayer. She prayed a lot – you could hear her praying in her bedroom – sometimes in the early hours.
Her health and memory started declining about three years ago, but she always bounced back. She was our “Energizer Bunny.” God saw Ernestina getting tired and a cure was not to be. So, he put his arms around her and whispered, “Come with Me.” With tearful eyes and heavy hearts, we watched you slowly grasp for breath and fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we would not make you stay. Your golden heart stopped beating, your hard-working hands put to rest – God broke our hearts to prove to us – he only takes the best.
Please join us in remembering and reflecting on her long and full life and the everlasting friendships and memories she built with so many. Reminisce about the good times and memories and know she went home to a higher place.
She is survived by her daughter Martha Tuttle and husband Ron from Frisco; daughter Susana Murphy from Frisco; son John Vogel and wife Daphne from Chula Vista; grandchildren Laura Baker and husband Jonathan, Ronnie Tuttle and wife Jessica, Kassandra Vogel, and grandson Kevin Vogel. Great grandchildren: Aiden, Owen, Emma, Makenzie, Madison, and Isabelle.
