Everyone’s life is the sum total of all of the people they have met, the things they have done, the places they have gone. Elvira Roy Santos was no exception. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Elvira will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Elvira’s life journey began on July 7th, 1958. She first greeted the world in Manila, Philippines. Her parents' names were Porfirio A. Roy and Isabel C. Roy. She grew up in Manila, Philippines. Growing up for Elvira was an involving experience. It allowed her to learn and grow and create all kinds of memories.
A lot of what shaped Elvira’s life was how she was raised. She was raised with five siblings. Elvira had two sisters, Emerita and Editha, and three brothers, Eduardo, Efren and Ernesto. Elvira was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings and they shared many life experiences over the years.
Many things change when a person becomes old enough to go to high school; Elvira was no different. She was a typical teenager who had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. She graduated from Araullio High School in 1975.
After high school, the next big step in a person’s life is heading off to college. Elvira enjoyed her college years. Though it was a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied it, she was able to manage the balancing act. She attended Pamantasan Nglungsod Ngmaynila and graduated in 1979 with a B.S. in nursing.
Falling in love is a huge milestone for any person. Just knowing that you have met that special someone is a magical feeling. Elvira experienced that with Benito R. Santos and they exchanged wedding vows on August 30, 1986.
Empathic and loyal, Elvira was committed to making her new family happy. It is true that during those early years the couple lived modestly, but they were happy nonetheless. Elvira was blessed with one child, Paul-Michael R. Santos. She worked hard toward raising her child in a positive and nurturing environment, being a good mother to her child and doing her best to fulfill his needs.
How a person performs in the workplace can be a reflection on how they live their life. Fortunately, Elvira enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Elvira worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her job. Elvira’s primary occupation was working as a nurse. Elvira worked for nine years at Roseland Community Hospital in Chicago, Illinois as medical and surgical nurse and then she worked sixteen years in Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center as a lead nurse in the Telemetry unit.
Elvira Santos left us on March 24, 2011. She passed away at her residence in Chula Vista, California. She was 52 years old. The cause of death was brain cancer. She was preceded in death by her father Porfirio and her brother Ernesto. She is survived by her husband Benito Santos; her son Paul-Michael; her mother Isabel; her sisters Emerita and Editha; and her brothers Eduardo and Efren. Services were handled by Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary. Elvira was laid to rest at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.
Simply stated, Elvira was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being caring and giving, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Elvira leaves behind her a legacy of lifelong friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life Elvira Roy Santos touched will always remember her with a smile.
