Ruby Thomas

She was born July 28, 1951, at her grandmother's home in Wilmington, NC. Ruby was the daughter of the late Benjamin Bryant and Wilma Hewett Huffman. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill Nate Thomas as well as her son Fredrick Lee Lewis (Freddie), grandson Jesse Dwayne Mason, step-grandsons Brandon Manzo and Christian McMaster and step-great-grandson Demetrius (DJ) Johnson, as well as her sister Joanne H. Milliken and brother Benjamin Bryant Huffman, Jr.

Ruby grew up in Wilmington, NC where she attended New Hanover High School. As a teen she enjoyed going to Wrightsville and Carolina Beach, where she helped her grandmother during the summer in the motel business. Ruby was a hard worker and served in many roles throughout her life including food service, textiles, construction and merchandising, to name a few. She was best known for her role as a caregiver. Ruby had a servant's heart and a passion for helping anyone in need. She loved to travel and was always ready for the next road trip. Ruby was family oriented and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Ruby loved the Good Lord with her whole heart and attended Red Hill Pentecostal Church in Delco, where she was a member for many years.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Patricia Lewis Mason and husband Larry of the home; stepdaughters, Tanya Vieira of Oregon and Monica Thomas of Leland; 6 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Ellis of Bolton, Dorothy Fowler and husband Philip of Wilmington and brother, Gary Huffman and wife Faye of Bolivia.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at twelve o'clock in the afternoon at Red Hill Pentecostal Church in Delco, North Carolina. Burial will follow in the Bowling Cemetery in Bolivia, North Carolina.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from eleven o'clock until twelve o'clock at the church.

The family would also like to thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their support and kindness shown to them during Mrs. Thomas' sickness.
