Kay was born in Winston-Salem to James Lee Taylor and Martha Naomi Atkins Taylor on January 9, 1949. Kay attended East Forsyth and later graduated from Winston-Salem State. She married Glenn Eugene (Gene) Kye on April 22, 2000. She worked as a District Supervisor for the NC Division of Veteran Affairs where she retired. Kay served in the Air Force and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. She was involved in the Colonial Dames of XVII Century, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the War of 1812, and UDC, as well as before her health declined, an active member of New Hope Presbyterian Church.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, James and Martha Taylor. Her mother-in-law Ruth Kye and sister-in-law Annette Kye.
Kay leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted husband, Glenn Eugene (Gene) Kye. Kay's children, Carla Renae Swaim (Scott) and Paul Baker (Elaine), were the light of her life, and her adoration for her beloved grandson, Xander Baker, knew no bounds. His love filled her days with joy. Kay's brothers, Phillip Taylor (Susan) and Kurtis Taylor (Micky), held a special place in her heart, as did her cherished aunts, uncles, and many cousins. Among her beloved family members was her very special nephew, Kaleb Taylor, whose presence brought her immense joy and warmth.
In addition to her biological family, Kay's heart extended to her stepchildren, Timothy Kye, Jennifer Kye Gates (Donald), and Nathan Kye (Kim). Among her cherished memories are those of her step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she welcomed into her heart with open arms.
A visitation for Kay will be held at 10:30 am on June 10, 2024, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, located off Cherry Tree Road in Winnabow, North Carolina. Following the visitation, her funeral service and burial will take place immediately at the same location. Pastor Lora Rissmiller will be officiating the service, guiding family and friends in honoring Kay's life and legacy.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders of New Hope Presbyterian Church: Brenda Rabon, Martha Rabon Robinson, Ronda Willetts, George Irving, Jr., Ed (Bud) Maultsby, and Tom B Rabon, Sr.
