Katherine Cooper Miller, age 63, of Supply, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023. She was born on June 30, 1960 to the late Benjamin and Harriett Bayard Cooper in Washington, D.C.
Growing up in Arlington, Virginia, she graduated from Yorktown High School. She later attended Radford University where she received a Bachelor's degree In Business Administration. In 1985, she married Michael and moved to Fairfax VA. Later that year, after tiring of typical 9-5 employment, they founded and ran Barewoods & Accessories, a furniture company located in Centerville, VA.
She was diagnosed with PAP (Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis), a very rare lung disease in 1996. After experiencing extended trips to Duke Medical Center for Treatments without the children, they sold the business in 1999 and moved to Durham, North Carolina to be close the hospital. She was treated for the lung disease until her lungs were close to failure and required the only option, a Bi-lateral Lung Transplant in 2015. One year later, after receiving treatment for rejection of the lungs, she was given news of limited survival. They decided to move to Holden Beach for the love of the coast and salt air. Beating all odds, Kathy lived for 7 more years.
With the gift of her humor and beautiful smile, Kathy lit up every room she entered. She was a kind and caring person, with a deep love for her family. Her strength was more than admirable throughout her life, always, with the utmost dignity.
Notwithstanding, She will be watching over us and sending signs to point the way, as always. We love you!
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of thirty-eight years, Michael Scott Miller; her sons, Adam Lee Miller and Scott Alexander Miller and his wife, Adrienne; her brother, Herbert Cooper; sisters, Suzanne Cooper Buck and Barbara Cooper Keaton; and last but not least her furbaby of eighteen years her chihuahua, Opie.
