Mr. Wescott was born in Southport, N.C. on June 14, 1934 and was the son of the late Joseph Warren Wescott and Mary Victoria Lewis Wescott. He was employed with Babcock and Wilcox of Wilmington for 30 years and then worked with Progress Energy and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Town Creek Christian Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School superintendent and played the guitar. He is survived by his wife Deloris Wescott, four children, Pam Freeman of Bolivia; Dr. Joseph Wescott, II of Raleigh; Kimberly Wescott Hatch and husband Bert of Leland; and Jennifer Kostyal and husband David of Wilmington; grandchildren, Jason Lanier; Eric Lanier; Kerri Lanier; Rachael Wescott; Joseph Wescott, III; Rose Wescott; Paul Hatch; Sam Hatch; David Kostyal; and Rebekah Kostyal; great-grandchildren, Ellis Lanier; Liam Lanier; Jack Lanier; Oliver Lanier; two brothers, Danny Galloway and Ernie Galloway, both of Varnumtown.
Funeral services will be held Thursday April 7, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the White Funeral Service Chapel 603 Ocean Hwy E. Supply with the Reverend Tommy Blanton and Reverend Tommy Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in the Willetts Cemetery.
Mr. Wescott’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Wednesday April 6, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at White Funeral & Cremation Service Supply Chapel and other times from the home of his daughter, Pam Freeman.
