To the descendants of Joe Redington, 

I just learned of his passing today, more than twelve years after the fact.  I’m so very sorry that he passed so young, especially two years into a new marriage.  May he rest in peace.

I worked with Joe when I was a young recruit at Citibank and he was running the regional processing center and again in National Operations.  He promoted me to VP.   I wrote speeches for him. He was the most grounded executive I ever worked for.  Handsome and winsome.  I’m sad to learn his years on earth were shortened.

I worked for Joe in the National Operations Group in Citibank California - San Francisco for about 2 years.  Joe was a great guy - brought humor and sensitivity during a very difficult time in the late 1980's and early 199o's when everyone was under great pressure.  He was a class act and someone who you knew you could always trust and depend on.  My sympathies for all of Joe's family - you were so fortunate to have someone so special at the head of your family.
May your special memories of this truly special man ease the pain of your loss.

Boca Joe , Joe the Red ,and all the nicknames that Don Rickelman mentioned in his rememberance to the guest book bring great memories to mind .
But his greatest role was as the number one aide to the "Great Ali Baba '(Mike Onorato ).Joe was the lead thief of the "Ali Baba " and his 40 thieves made up of the best 25's to 30 handicappers at Chartwell.
We will miss you Joe and we will endeavor to make you proud of us on the greens at Chartwell .

My deepest sympathies to Denise & Joey. Your Dad and I first met as two small young boys in the same classroom at Brooklyn Prep. We followed each other to Holy Cross and then into the military - - USN for Joe and USMC for me. I started my career at Citibank, but left after 6 years. I was in Operations at 111 Wall, but we did not run across each other then. My loss. We resumed our relationship through Holy Cross reunions and events. I loved being around Joe. He was so easy to be with and so much fun. He was also very helpful to me in fund raising for the college. The last time we met was at Saratoga for a mini class reunion. What a great time! I was a hoping he would come last summer. I was really looking forward to seeing him and was disappointed he didn't make it. Maybe now I unfortunately understand why. I can only hope that I have been, and will be, endeared to my children, to my work colleagues and to my friends as much as Joe was. He was and is a role model for us all.

The same sentiments are repeated throughout this guest book for a good reason.  Joe was an extraordinary man. I have worked for Citi for 31 years and spent my first 15 years working personally for Joe.  There has never been anyone else who could ever compare to him.  I was very fortunate to work for him for all those years and they will always be precious memories to me.  A wonderful experience.  He was a great boss. friend, mentor, and colleague.  Everyone loved him.  He made work enjoyable, he made everyone do better because he created a unique working environment. We were like one big family. He was not only smart, but he was truly a sincere, honest and fair man.  He loved his family and he was proud of them.  He was proud of his employees too and he treated everyone special, he had time for everyone from the custodian to his Executive Team.  This is such a loss, especially for his children, Denise and Joey, whom he loved so much.  My thoughts are with you all.  You were truly blessed to have such a wonderful father.

I was lucky to know Joe for most of my career at Citi. I never worked for him directly but admired the camaraderie he engendered in the people that worked for him as well as the people who were lucky to know him. I was one of those lucky people. My heartfelt sympathy and compassion to his family.

The best way that I can describe my memory of Joe is as a class act.  Even though we worked in different Regions at Citibank he was always there to lend a helping hand and provide an encouraging word during difficult times.  He will certainly be missed by all who knew him.  Although he left this world too early, his family should feel blessed to have had a man of his character as a role model.

Joe was the first Operations Head I ever did numbers for at Cit in 1975 and our careers intertwined over many years through BLISI and National Operations.  I remember working on budgets on the porch of the "$29,000 cardboard house" in Staten Island and playing golf at Richmond County CC.  Not only was Joe a great guy to work for, his sense of humor always kept things light no matter the pressures of the moment.  He is sorely missed.

My sincerest condolences and prayers to the family.I had many contacts with Joe in the 80's and 90's when I was in audit and he headed the Brooklyn/Long Island/Staten Island Region of the Consumer Bank. Joe and I were colleagues at Citibank and he taught me a great deal. A wonderful man and he will be missed.

I knew Joe through his daughter at some social functions in Florida, like the HUGE 40th (or was it 30th) birthday party that he threw for Denise. I should have taken him up on his offer to go up to Baltimore one summer. His hair and smile were only small examples of the brightness that he illumuniated.

I worked for Joe @ Citi for well over a dozen years in Bklyn/SI, then BLISI, then NY Ops, National Ops & he was the best boss I've ever had. Apologies to all the wonderful (and not-so-wonderful) ones I've had since, but Joe was absolutely THE best.

Total class. OK, so-so softball player (especially with that ridiculous, all-white outfit he wore to the games...what was he gonna sell ice cream or make his rounds at the hospital?), but damn, I would lay across the proverbial railroad tracks for him.

He was cool, he was sharp, he cared, the people loved him - - as did I. I respected & admired him to the nth degree, but I probably enjoyed working for, and with, him even more.
 
And I will miss him dearly.
