Joan Ward Pruner, 84, of Highland Beach FL, succumbed to heart disease and went to the Lord on Feb.10, 2022. Born in NJ to the late John J. and Ola Lillian Ward, she is predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Leo J Pruner and her brother John A. Ward. Joan leaves behind her 4 children, James Pruner, Robert Pruner, Frank (Lisa) Pruner and Linda (Fred) Fay, her sister Kathlyn McCormack, her 5 grandchildren, James V. Pruner, Matthew C. Pruner, Amy E. Pruner, Robert W. Fay, Lorraine M. Fay, and multiple beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Joan grew up in East Orange and Livingston NJ, graduated in 1954 from Mount St. Dominic Academy in Caldwell, NJ and went on to graduate from Berkeley Secretarial School in East Orange, NJ. Joan and Leo met in a young adult church group and married in 1957. They raised their children in Caldwell, NJ and retired to Florida in 1990.
Joan worked out of her home transcribing notes for court reporters while her children were young which permitted her to be involved in their schools, scouting and youth activities. Later she worked in a busy attorneys office in Caldwell. Joan also enjoyed crafting, the camaraderie of bowling league, camping, dancing with the Cross Trails square dance group, and her churches: St. Aloysius RC in Caldwell and St. Lucy RC in Highland Beach. She and Leo were also members of the Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Highland Beach.
The family wishes to thank the friends and caregivers that helped Joan get through these last few years.
Services will be coordinated by Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Federal Hwy, Boca Raton with viewing on Thursday evening Feb 17, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 on Friday Feb 18 at the Funeral Home with Entombment to follow at The Gardens of Boca Raton, 4103 N Military Trail.
