Doug lived exuberantly, fearlessly, and fully. Throughout his life, he has been drawn to the pursuit of knowledge and legacy, to create better opportunities for the next generation.
He was born in a seaside village, in the parish of St. Peter Barbados the son of a fisherman and a minister. After losing his father while in secondary school, as the eldest of two, he assumed responsibilities in his home, community and with his beloved younger brother Lionel, early in his life.
His mother, Vera Forde, instilled not only a strong foundation of faith in God but persistence and ambition. His strong academic record led him to receive the first Eastern Caribbean Development Scholarship, providing full tuition, room and board. Doug was not only the first in his family to go to high school, but to graduate from college and later graduate school.
Although he was a Certified Public Accountant for most of his career in finance, he was also a talented artist and as comfortable behind a paintbrush, guitar or open mic, as he was with spreadsheets. He loved music, dancing, singing, storytelling, taking long drives, flying fish, architecture, gardening, the ocean, and his family.
