Dolores Marie McBride, age 83, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2017 after a long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and lung cancer. Dee passed away in the arms of Tom and her daughters Karen and Jill, as they told her how much she is loved and adored.
During the days preceding Dee’s death, Father Ed Cejka visited her daily, providing her with comfort and peace in her Catholic faith. Dee received the anointing for the sick, absolution, last rights, and time in prayer with Father Ed before she passed away.
Dee was born September 6, 1934, in Camden, New Jersey to the late Charles Joseph McBride and the late Mildred Carmella Bellino McBride. Dee spent her youth and many adult years, primarily in Wildwood, New Jersey prior to relocating to Florida.
Dee thoroughly enjoyed socializing with her friends and family. She looked forward to socials at her favorite organizations, gatherings in her home and at her daughter’s home, and singing, laughing and dancing in the company of family and friends. Dee loved cooking and will be forever remembered for her Italian sauce and meatballs, Sunday dinners, and holiday meals, which she rejoiced in preparing and sharing. Dee loved thrift stores, garage sales, and perfected the art of bargain hunting, a skill she loved to share others. Dee was involved in many community services and is fondly remembered as “Smiling Dee.” Dee was an active member of The Orioles Club, the Moose Lodge, the Eagles Club, the VFW, and the Italian-American Club in Sebastian Florida.
Dee is survived by her common law husband Thomas Shadgett; her daughters, Karen Dolores Corcoran-Walsh and Jill Marie Erickson, Dee’s Son-In-Laws Chris Walsh and Mike Erickson, grandchildren Julie Pagni, Joseph Dumbroff, Hannah Walsh, and Rachel, Sean, and Keith Erickson, great granddaughter Addison Erickson, her sister, Katheryn Hannon, and her nephews Kevin Clancy and Sean Hannon and a number of other relatives, blended family members, and close friends. We can all take comfort knowing Dee’s smiling eyes are upon us.
There will be a private memorial service for immediate family members and friends at the Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home in East Boca Raton, Florida and a Celebration of Life in Sebastian, Florida.
