Dary passed away peacefully on Feb. 6, 2023 after having a brain aneurysm during his sleep. He was an amazing father, husband, son, grandson, brother, cousin, co-worker and friend…everyone who knew Dary loved him, his energy, his smile. Dary was born January 10, 1968, to parents Charles Hasselman Jr. and Dale Pitts in New York, NY. He spent his younger years there until moving to Rock Hill, SC. Dary was raised by his Grandmother, Moslette Pitts. He attended Clemson University on a scholarship, studied at the University of Denver, and graduated from FAU with his BA and Masters in Economics.
Dary worked in Rock Hill for Nations Bank and relocated to Chicago with the bank. He loved his work but developed wanderlust; one year, after receiving his bonus, he left the 9-5 life to backpack the world…Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Greece. After two years and with only $20 left in his pocket, he returned to the States and moved to Denver, where he met and fell in love with Wendy Mendez. Dary and Wendy married on Aug. 22, 2004, and had two beautiful children – Alan and Amalia – their greatest loves. In 2009, the Hasselman family moved to South Florida.
Dary’s life was rich with a love music, Spartan Races, 5Ks, Jingle Runs, family travel, and everything that involved his children…building sets for theater, dancing with the kids at Boca Ballet, attending every concert and show the kids performed in. He loved the Foo Fighters, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Mozart & Beethoven…and he never met a hot dog he didn’t like. Dary played guitar, piano, drums, and in his younger days – the trumpet. By 2023, he was an adjunct professor at Palm Beach State College teaching economics, and was a business analyst at SBA Communications. Dary was loved by many and will always be remembered not only for his smile and sense of humor but also for the positive energy he brought to all around him.
A memorial service for close friends and family will be held 5pm on February 17, 2023 at Babione-Kraeer Funeral Home in Boca Raton, FL. In lieu of flowers, support for the children is gratefully welcomed at https://spot.fund/zgx57sc.
