William Brown Morris, 89, of Martinsville passed away Thursday morning, October 26, 2023 in his home with his family at his side. He was born November 25, 1933 in Hinsdale, Illinois to Vernon Morris and Eleanor Brown Morris. He was retired from selling Manufacturing Products.
Survivors include his son, Bob (Blynn) Morris of Martinsville; two daughters, Karen (Paul) Herkes of Mount Prospect, Illinois, and Sarah (Peter) Wasson of Ashland, Wisconsin; and his partner of 30 years, Avis Buecking, with whom he shared a home in Sunapee, NH. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Phyllis, and a sister and brother-in-law, Marian (Arthur) Lies.
William was a long time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Richmond, Indiana. He was a life-long Cub’s fan and enjoyed walking, hiking, traveling and his youth was proficient mountaineer. His mountaineering exploits included climbing 47 of Colorado’s named 14,000’ peaks in a 21-day push and receiving an invitation to participate in the first successful US Mount Everest expedition in 1963. He hiked, backpacked, and climbed with his children into his late-70s, and served as a mentor to a number of their friends.
There are no services scheduled at this time, there will be a Celebration of Life scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home.
