Sarah (Hazel) Crandall of Bloomington, Indiana passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2024 surrounded by her family. Born July 27, 1924 in Bloomington, Indiana, she was the daughter of Rev. Bruce and Nola (Judah) Hazel. She attended Ellettsville High School, graduating in 1942. On September 6, 1942 she wed John Crandall. They were married for 52 years until his death in 1995. Sarah was an active member of Fairview United Methodist Church for over 90 years, serving as youth counselor, trustee, administrative board member, and other board committee appointments. She was employed by Indiana University School of Medicine and the School of Education for over 52 years. Sarah retired from the School of Education in December 2014. After Sarah retired, she volunteered as secretary at Fairview United Methodist Church. She also volunteered for several years at the Bloomington Hospital.
Sarah is survived by her daughter, Sharen (Mike) Edwards of Carmel, Indiana and son Steven (Karen) Crandall of Haines City Beach, Florida; and a sister, Barbara (Darrel) Oliver of Indianapolis, Indiana. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Tina (John) Alderson of Westfield, Indiana, and J.D. (J’Lynn) Edwards of Westfield, Indiana; Monica (Ben) LaDrew of Melbourne, Florida and Allison (Eddie) LaLone of Alpharetta, Georgia. She is survived by 6 great-grandchildren, Lauren (Travis) Verhoff of Indianapolis, Indiana; Kayla LaBarr of Carmel, Indiana; Hannah Edwards of Carmel, Indiana; Jack (Bri) Edwards, of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Luke Edwards of Austin, Texas; and Montgomery LaLone of Alpharetta, Georgia. She is also survived by 1 great-great grandchild, Carter Verhoff, and many nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Crandall, sister Ruth Boruff and brothers Paul and Morris Hazel.
Sarah’s life will be celebrated at a private ceremony with family. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, John Crandall, at Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
