Robert “Rob” Jay Hendricks, 53, of Bloomington, In. passed away Saturday, December 10,2016 at the Hospice House in Bloomington, IN. after a yearlong battle with colon cancer. He was born April 18, 1963 in Bloomington, IN. the son of James and Ruth (Vangie) Hendricks. Rob grew up in Unionville, IN. and was a 1981 graduate of Bloomington High School North. While at North HS Rob played on both the basketball and golf teams. But, his true love was music. He excelled at playing drums in both the marching and symphonic bands and won many 1st place awards in solo competitions. After high school, Rob attended Vincennes University where he graduated Cum laude with an associate of science degree with a major in horticulture. Rob married Heidi Jo Anne Pugh, his loving wife of 28 years, on July 9,1988 in Bloomington, In. Rob and Heidi where the owners of Bloomington Irrigation for nine years. Rob then worked as an assistant grounds keeper for both Harrison Lake and Martinsville golf clubs. He then worked in the underground utility business for several years with Sub Surface of Indiana in Martinsville. At the time of his passing he worked as a driver for Young Trucking. Rob and Heidi got two "little surprises" from God when their beautiful daughters where born only 13 months apart. Haylee and Paige where the one thing Rob was most proud of in this world and he constantly told them so! Rob had many hobbies including fishing, birding and building model trains. But, his most beloved hobby was racing. Rob raced go carts and shifter carts for many years and won many races and titles under the mentorship of his good friend Roger Kinser. After years of playing the drums, Rob decided to buy a guitar and teach himself how to play. That is when the true love affair with music began! Rob was an avid guitar player and would spend hours playing and honing his technique. Rob played with many local bands over the years and was most known for playing lead guitar in the local rock band Liquid Confusion. Rob was a member of The Bridge of Brown County church where he also played guitar in one of the church worship bands. Rob is survived by his wife, Heidi (Pugh) Hendricks and his two daughters, Haylee and Paige Hendricks; his parents, Ruth (Vangie) and James Hendricks; a sister, Jayma Clough and her husband Jon; an uncle, Paul Johnson and his wife, Wanda; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Irene (Peterson) Hendricks and Rev. Kinnison and Iva (Stoops) Johnson.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Day & Deremiah - Frye Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Darrell Stout. A memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
