Marjorie Ann Butcher, 87, of Bloomington died Sunday, January 31, 2016 in Golden Living Center. She was born July 6, 1928 in Bloomington to Dale Hardy and Vada Back Hardy. On July 3rd, 1948 Marjorie married Jerald Butcher in Bloomington Indiana, having met him through their fathers as Jerald’s dad went to work for Marjorie’s at the Spur filling station. She was a graduate of Bloomington High School and although her primary occupation was being a stay at home mom and house wife, Marjorie had worked as a secretary at the Indiana University Memorial Building and been a cashier for A&P and S. S. Kresge.
Survivors include her daughter, Thea Sargent and her husband Jeff of Orlando, FL, two grandsons, Bradley Justin Sargent of Orlando, FL and Christopher Chase Sargent of Charlotte, NC; 3 sisters, Betty Jean Chambers of Bloomington, Ruth Griggs of Brownsburg and Nancy Joann Long of Fishers; two brothers, Guy E. Hardy of Bloomington and John Roger Hardy of El Paso, Texas; a sister-in-law, Donna Oard of Ellettsville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 67 years, Jerald Butcher; and two brothers, Donald and Leon Hardy.
Marjorie was a devoted member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. Marjorie loved traveling to Orlando, Florida with Jerald to spend time with their daughter, Thea and two grandsons, Brad and Chase watching them grow up and play sports. Other hobbies included painting pictures with Jerald for gifts to family and friends, decorating, especially painting and wallpapering, which she learned to do at an early age working with her dad on odd jobs, she loved Halloween, even decorating a bedroom in her home to celebrate the holiday, she always kept twinkle lights on inside her home and she loved anything leopard and sparkly.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, February 8, 2016 at 3:30 PM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E Third St with Pastor Alan Phillips officiating. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be prior to services on Monday from 2:00-3:30 PM in the funeral home.
