Hershel R. Tieman, 80, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024 at home after a lengthy illness. He was born September 26, 1944 in Martinsville to Paul and Daisy Harding Tieman. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1962 and went on to attend Barber College. He barbered in Bloomington for almost 60 years, lastly at Bloomington Barber Shop. On September 3, 1966 he married the love of his life, Connie L. Russell and they just celebrated 58 years of Marriage.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Chris (Monique) and Brian (Kimberly) Tieman and Jill (Tom) Callahan. Five Grandchildren, Oliver, Grace and Ben Callahan, Mairah Tieman and Phiona Raffington. Two sisters, Pauline (Alan) Huffer and Rebecca Mitchell, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bernard and Hubert Tieman; a sister Rosetta Stewart; and a niece, Bernadine Shook.
Hershel attended Smithville Christian Church since 1969 where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and Elder. He also coached youth baseball and basketball when his boys were growing up. He loved fishing and hunting mushrooms as well as being a sports fan of Bloomington South, I U and the Colts.
Visitation will be Friday, December 13, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Smithville Christian Church, 7280 South Fairfax Road. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 PM also at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home.
