Surviving family include his son, Clay (Julie) Carter III; his daughter, Ria Carter; his sister, Barbary Perry; grandchildren, Kevin Carter, Kyle May, Matthew (Lindsey) May, Amelia (Jesse) McCune, Natasha (Jared) Meadows, Erin Carter, and Clay Carter IV; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Anderson-Carter; and seven siblings.
He and his wife Ruth, raised their family in Bloomington, IN. Clay retired after many years of working for IU. He was also a member of North Central Church of Christ.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 12th, 2022, from 9am to 11am followed by a funeral service at 12:30pm at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home (4150 E. 3rd St. Bloomington, IN 47401) with Pastor Kim Norris of City Church For All Nations officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens at 1:30pm. The family requests that donations may be made to Healing Hands Outreach Center at healinghandsbloomington.org.
